Hunts Picks: Week 6

2-2

Not good. Not bad. Just aggressively mediocre.

We went 2-2 last week, which isn’t exactly the type of record you want to put on a billboard, but we’re still alive and kicking. Time to get back in the green.

The Good

Clemson Stinks

Clemson stinks. Boy, do they stink.

Clemson is going to be able to play close with and beat some bad or average ACC teams, but they simply do not have the dudes to beat a team like Miami. It’s really sad to see that Dab ain’t got that drip anymore.

Miami is really good. They should cakewalk through most of this schedule. That Notre Dame game is going to make or break the season and tell us whether Miami is truly a national title team or just a really good football team. But even as I’m typing that, I don’t know if I think either of those teams are truly national-title good.

I think Mensah and Carr are both good, but the flaws in their games scare the hell out of me if I’m a fan of either team.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. That game isn’t for another month.

Speaking of bad teams in the state of South Carolina, let’s talk about those Gamecocks.

The goob Shane Beamer got out to a 17-0 lead, and I’m not gonna lie, I was a little nervous because Cocktober ain’t no joke.

The second half of this game was fun as hell, though.

Games like this, two pretty evenly matched teams that are probably both not very good, lead to some of the best bad football. This game was like my favorite thing to do on a rainy Sunday with no football.

I love watching a movie that is bad but somehow good. You take a 30-minute nap, wake up, and realize you haven’t actually missed anything happening in the movie.

That’s what this game felt like.

And the fact that it went to overtime was awesome because it just extended the bad football while pretty much every other game was already decided.

I loved the decision from Willy Stein to go for two at the end of the first OT. If you’re going to have to go for two the next time around, go ahead and do it there and end the damn game.

The Bad

Well, I said we would get burned by the Kamario Taylor show at some point, and damn did we get burned fast.

Fumble on the first drive, followed by giving up a touchdown, followed immediately by a Pick 6.

Our boy still fought his ass off and tried to win us a football game, but sometimes there are just better teams than you, and that was the case Saturday.

Kamario also may have been a little dinged up, which would have been nice to know a couple of days before kickoff instead of a couple of hours before kickoff. He eventually had to leave the game, which obviously wasn’t great.

The play probably should have been the over.

I let you down here.

But we are still Kamario stans.

Woof.

What an ass beating that was handed out in Columbia, Missouri.

If you had told me Missouri won, I would have said, “Wow, that’s crazy,” but then reminded you that it’s the SEC and Florida was on the road.

But the ass beating that was handed out was truly shocking.

Jadan Baugh having 13 yards on 12 carries was wild. Mizzou completely dominated this game, and Florida had absolutely no answers.

This Florida team has a lot to figure out if they want to make the moves people thought they could make just a week ago.

For those who have watched Georgia Tech the last couple of years, I’m sorry, this has been the rub against Buster Faulkner. If you shut down the run game, he has struggled to make the rest of the offense work.

I just hope Florida keeps winning and sets up this Cocktail Party ATL edition as an absolute fucking rager.

Indiana at Nebraska
Nebraska (+7.5), O/U 49.5 | Kickoff 12:00 PM FOX
Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, NE

I hate doing this considering how betting on Indiana has gone this year, but I think it’s time to jump back on the train.

Nebraska has been a little frisky this year, but they also got lucky to beat a very, very bad Maryland team.

I think Indiana is going to go to Lincoln and play bully ball against the Cornhuskers.

What a weird sentence to write.

Indiana bullying Nebraska in football.

I think Indiana goes full ground-and-pound and shortens the game. Also, as much as I love him on my college football fantasy team, Anthony Colandrea is the Whoopsie Daisy King, and I think that finally rears its ugly head this weekend.

I don’t think this is a national-title-good Indiana team, but I do think it’s a playoff team. And Cig teams seem to find their footing after a few weeks.

The Pick: Indiana -7.5

Texas vs. Oklahoma
Oklahoma (+7.5), O/U 39.5 | Kickoff 3:30 PM ABC
Cotton Bowl, Dallas, TX

The Red River Shootout.

Or, as the Cover 3 Podcast called it, the Red River Rock Fight.

A 39.5 total in this game?!?!

What in the hell is going on?

I remember games that would be at this total at halftime.

If you take out the turnovers from Mateer, Arch and him are having pretty similar seasons. Neither team has much of a rushing game, but they both have great defenses.

This game is going to be ugly.

It’s going to be gross.

I don’t think either quarterback is going to look particularly good.

Will we get another Collins Simmons elite celebration like we did during the Tennessee game?

This one feels like a tricky play, but we’re riding the total here.

The Pick: Under 39.5

Duke at Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech (+6.5), O/U 43.5 | Kickoff 3:30 PM ESPN2
Bobby Dodd Stadium, Atlanta, GA

Well, well, well.

As the weeks roll on, Georgia Tech keeps looking worse and worse.

We got a really stinky team on our hands down in Midtown.

Duke is a pretty decent team and runs the hell out of the ball. And Tech’s biggest problems are on the lines of scrimmage.

I think we’re getting our hands on a bad line here, and Tech shouldn’t be getting the benefit of the three points for playing at home.

I think this is going to be a short game because of the weather and both teams trying to run the ball.

Tech as only a single-touchdown dog may be an autoplay from here on out.

The Pick: Duke -6.5

North Dakota State at UNLV
UNLV (+3.5), O/U 43.5 | Kickoff 7:00 PM The CW
Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, NV

Did a game on The CW just make the Big Hunt Picks Blog?

Hell yes it did.

The former FCS power that is now in the FBS and still looks like a fucking wagon is going to Sin City to face off against our biggest adversary: Jackson Arnold.

My brain tells me this is mispriced, and so does my top-secret gambling model.

This game should have NDSU favored by a billion.

The Bison are going to go to Las Vegas and run wild, like that Buffalo slot machine game when you hit a big winner.

NDSU is gritty. They’re tough. They’re physical.

Everything UNLV is not.

This is a massive contrast in styles, and our boy Dan Mullen never beats physical football teams.

I think this game is easy, and the best part is you don’t even have to search for The CW on your channel guide.

The Pick: NDSU -3.5

Georgia at Alabama
Alabama (-1.5), O/U 51.5 | Kickoff 7:30 PM ABC
Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL

Normally, I don’t bet on teams in spots like this.

But this is fucking Georgia-Alabama.

The clash of the best in the SEC. Hell, the clash of two of the best teams in the country.

This game is going to be awesome if you’re not a fan of either team. If you are, you’re probably going to want to throw up the entire time.

And with that said…

YOU THINK I WOULD PUT THIS GAME IN AND NOT PICK THE GEORGIA FUCKING BULLDOGS?!

There may be a hurricane called Isaias coming to Alabama, but it ain’t gonna be anything like Hurricane Kirby coming to town.

I believe in this team.

I think this team has what it takes to go all the way, and that shit starts Saturday.

I love our rushing game.

I love our QB and WR room.

Our linebackers are heat-seeking missiles.

We have Ellis Island at corner.

And KJ fucking Bolden at safety, ready to take heads off.

Oh, and one more thing…

THEM DAWGS ARE HELL.

The Pick: Georgia Moneyline

The Fun Part (9-14)
